A short introduction to plastics

Plastic is the standard option in consumerism, yet it endangers the environment.

Plastic can be found all around us – it is used to produce and pack the things that we buy. On an annual basis, 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally, according to UN Environment. The production of plastic is on the rise as the petroleum lobbies are promoting the use of petroleum-based plastics due to a decreased demand for petroleum in the energy sector. The material has become popular due to its versatility and durability. However, it is unfortunate that short-lived products are made with a long-lasting material - plastics take several years to decompose and they even poison the environment as microplastics. Furthermore, only less than 10% of plastic is recycled.

One third of all plastics find its way into the oceans, and by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish. The plastics travel along the currents and reach large water bodies. Helpless marine animals and sea birds often mistake the colorful, broken down plastics for food. National Geographic claims that over 700 species of marine animals have died after ingesting plastics or being entangled by them.

We have the responsibility to stop plastic pollution. Indo Naturals was founded with the purpose to help reduce plastic waste by creating easily adoptable zero-waste alternatives to products we use in our everyday lives. Our soap bars contain only natural ingredients, and we pack them in 100% recycled, fully compostable paper boxes. We are also developing reusable bags and dishwashing brushes to replace plastic alternatives with natural and high-quality products for your journey towards a sustainable lifestyle.
